Remember Tarzan?
That ⅞ naked dude that hangs out with monkeys in the forest and swings from vines – girls FAWN over that dude (or at least that cute brunette did).
Now… it’s not the loincloth or monkey friends that you should be emulating – it’s the vine swinging.
Tarzan swings on vines to get where he wants to go, and leverages one vine to reach the next in sequence.
Practically a physicist.
He has expert understanding of where he is and wants to go (space), and when to let go of a vine to maximize velocity to the next (time).
Become Tarzan… minus the monkeys and hygiene (unless that’s your thing).
Understanding where you are in life and where you want to go is crucial.
Though simple in concept, it’s kind of like when fit people tell you to “eat well and workout”. If you don’t yet grasp the nuances, it’s a black box.
Understanding space, time, and where you’re headed will help you plot your path.
So, where to start?
Like all life’s important answers, it’s a paradox. You start at the end.
The most important goal you should aim for is what you want your life to look like at time of death, then invert.
We shoot for perfect harmony and alignment to an aim, but rarely achieve it.
So, what to do?
Start by trying to both lengthen and straighten your actions:
This will lead to a sort of imperfect alignment, leading to something akin to vine swinging. This will allow for congruence in your actions that will facilitate progress. It will have the added benefit for skill and action stacking. This way you’ll get closer to perfect alignment, but for this to happen you must:
- Discern noise from signal relative to your goal, then remove all noise.
2. Develop a good filter, so you can play long-term games with long term people (as Naval puts it). This will make for a life where discord never occurs.
Life’s too short to swing, fall down, climb up, and repeat. You want to be able to leverage the compounding returns of momentum and get as close as possible to your actions being in perfect alignment.
